Megan and Eric's Intimate City Elopement
Megan and Eric's June elopement at Dale Maffitt Reservoir near Des Moines was intimate and unique. The day started with a private first look by the lake. Megan wore a sleeveless boho lace dress with a rustic bouquet of garden roses, greenery, and pheasant feathers. Eric looked sharp in a classic grey suit. Their friend Pete officiated a heartfelt lakeside ceremony, where they exchanged vows in a grassy area in the shade. After the ceremony, they celebrated with a "unity cocktail," mixing a drink together from pre-prepared ingredients and toasting each other.
The day continued with a visit to Paws & Pints, where Megan and Eric stopped for some quick playtime with their cute dogs! The celebration moved to Varsity Cinema in the Drake neighborhood, where their names and wedding date were displayed on the theatre marquee. We took advantage of the empty theatre for some unique couples photos, and then concluded with a barhop to their favorite cocktail bar and brewery where they enjoyed drinks on the patio.
Megan texted me when I sent her the sneak peek and said, “Thank you so much, Grace! We just scrolled through them and we’re so in love! Thank you also for being so amazing. You made us feel like rock stars and made the whole day so comfortable and fun!” And my goooooodness this is a little boost to my heart. I also got to sign their marriage license as a witness and it was my first time doing that!! 🥹
And side note: do what you want to do on your wedding day. If it’s a big party, great! If it’s an elopement where it’s the two of you, incredible! But make it YOUR day and celebrate how you want to.
