Katelyn & Jake’s Autumn Wedding in the City at Surety Hotel

Katelyn & Jake had the most perfect rainy fall wedding day at Surety Hotel in downtown Des Moines. Between the city views, the classic-meets-modern styling, and a convertible getaway in a red Corvette—their wedding was such a fun mix of elegance and personality from start to finish.

They spent the morning getting ready in one of the hotel’s gorgeous suites, surrounded by their closest people. Huge windows filled the room with soft light, and the decor had this cozy, elevated vibe—warm leather, gold and glass details, framed art, and plants. Katelyn and Jake exchanged letters and gifts, had a few drinks with friends, and shared their first look and private vows right there in the suite. Katelyn wore a big shimmery satin gown with a soft off-shoulder neckline and a billowy train. It had such a romantic feel. Jake wore a classic black suit with a white shirt, black tie, and shiny shoes. The wedding party matched the vibe, with the groomsmen in black and the bridesmaids in long black gowns.

Portraits were scattered throughout the hotel—around the exterior, in the courtyard, the orange velvet hotel bar, and even the stairwells and elevator. The ceremony took place indoors in the solarium, with exposed brick, a glass ceiling, and natural light pouring in. Two floral pillars of white blooms and greenery framed the altar, and floating candles in glass cylinders lined the space behind them. It was intimate, joyful, and full of warmth. The reception in the ballroom was timeless and classic. Greenery and white floral arrangements of roses and baby’s breath decorated each table. The ceremony florals were repurposed at the sweetheart table, and a full floral chandelier with hanging disco balls floated over the checkered dance floor. They added a neon photo spot for guests and had a late night snack bar off to the side once the dancing kicked off.

Before their grand exit, they snuck back to their suite for a few fun photos of them jumping on the bed, fixing lipstick in the mirror, and taking in the last moments of the night. Then they made their way outside, where guests showered them with long white paper streamers as they jumped into a red Corvette. A convertible wedding exit? 10/10!
