Marika & Erica’s Romantic Wedding Day at Walker Homestead in Iowa City

A little mix of film and digital for Marika and Erica 🤍

These two started out as really close friends, and their connection grew into something so much deeper. Watching them exchange their vows surrounded by their family and friends brought so much emotion to the day—and yes, their vows made me cry. All of their guests traveled from the East Coast, making this a destination wedding in Iowa. It was so sweet to see how far their family and friends came to celebrate with them. Marika also has a horse named Birdie, which I loved because my daughter’s name is Birdie too!

They got married at Walker Homestead, one of the prettiest places in Iowa. The venue is an 85-acre working farm and winery just outside Iowa City, with animals you can pet (the fluffy chickens are so cute!). The grounds have an open-air pavilion, fire pits, a wood-fired pizza oven, and on-site catering, plus the barn has massive glass doors that open up to let the fresh air in. The natural beauty of the space makes it perfect for couples who love the outdoors and the amazing Iowa countryside. The rows of grapevines are especially stunning for sunset photos.

I’m shooting more and more film at each wedding and session, and I love pairing it with digital to tell the full story of the day. The timeless feel of film adds something so special, and I can’t wait to keep sharing all the magic created on a film camera.
