Katie & Brian’s Downtown Des Moines Wedding Day at The World Food Prize

Brian & Katie met in New York City when they worked with each other. Katie, who is originally from Des Moines, Iowa, wanted a hometown wedding and had originally planned for an outdoor venue, and last minute had to switch because of wind and potential rain. Thankfully, the most gorgeous venue, The World Food Prize, was open and it made for the stunning high end garden floral themed day. We actually ended up getting some sunshine later in the day, and it was the perfect ending to a day filled with so much love.

We started off getting ready at the AC Hotel nearby, and once hair and makeup were done, we packed up and went to The WFP to get dressed. I loved the large windows letting in the gorgeous light while Katie was getting ready, and it made for some stunning photos. Thankfully, we got to be outside for their emotional first look, filled with happy tears and the view of Des Moines famous Traveler’s sign in the backdrop. They exchanged gifts in the garden area, and got to have some private time together before spending time with friends and family the rest of the day. I love a first look because of this, so my couples can have some alone time to take a deep breath and ease the nerves before the main event.

The ceremony was held in the main room of The World Food Prize, and Katie got to walk down the stairs with her father to greet Brian at the bottom as she walked down the aisle. This was stunning because every guest got to face forward and watch her walk down the stairs instead of her walking down a traditional aisle. The front of the alter was lined with gorgeous floral arrangements that surrounded the couple as they said “I do,” in the gorgeous open room with high ceilings and ornate details. They even brought their puppy to greet them after walking back down the aisle and he was so happy to see them!

The reception was adorned with so many gorgeous floral arrangements from Rose Farmstead, with colorful shades of pink, oranges, purples and blues. The cupcakes for dessert from one of the best cupcake shops in Des Moines were made to match. I loved the long tables for the guests and the couple for dinner, instead of traditional round tables.

The couple danced the night away with a live band (which I always recommend!) and later in the evening, Katie changed into a short and lacy reception dress from Bridal Boutique DSM so she could let loose and have a blast on the dance floor. There was NO shortage of fun had and every guest young and old was on the dance floor with a drink in hand.

My favorite thing about this day was how deeply in love these two were and how Brian looked at Katie all day (seriously, if it’s not like that, I don’t want it!) and they were so sweet and kind and their families were as well.

Thank you, K&B, for one of the best days in Des Moines!
