Maka & Ty’s Adventurous Engagement Session at Ledges State Park
Maka and Tyler’s engagement session was originally going to be at Lake Red Rock, but Tyler had a big test at Iowa State in Ames on the day of their session, and they weren’t going to be able to make the drive to Red Rocks in time for golden hour, so we made a last minute change of plans and went to Ledges State Park instead!
We arrived at Ledges at EXACTLY the right time for golden hour, and it was truly the loveliest October evening. It was one of those beautiful, warm, colorful October days before it gets chilly at night. To celebrate Tyler finishing his big test right before our session, I brought along some beers to share with them! I already knew Maka and Tyler enjoyed beer and I thought it’d be the perfect way to switch from test-mode to relaxation and get them in a more carefree mood!
They wanted their engagement session to be full of nature, so we wandered all over Ledges State Park - it has just about everything you could ask for in terms of nature. We hiked through the woods, frolicked in fields of tall grass, and trekked up to this amazing overlook spot with an incredible view of the water below us. It was the perfect little place to just sit and hang out for a bit. Maka wore a long black dress with a slit up the side and the cutest hat for their session, and her look was HOT against the gorgeous nature backdrops.
I had so much fun during Maka and Tyler’s session - these two are just so sweet and I love them so much. They’re cute, funny, and they love to laugh, and they’re both people who make you feel like you’ve known them for years, even when you just meet them. They’re also both super tall and athletic, so I just felt like their little adopted grown human child following them around and taking cute pictures of them!
Before our session, Maka mentioned to me that Tyler might be a little nervous about the shoot, but afterward, she told me he ended up having a great time and loved their photos, and it made me feel SO GOOD to know I was able to make the session a blast for both of them. I can’t wait to shoot their wedding in September!
