A Modern and Timeless Cedar Rapids Wedding at Ashton Hill Farm
I met Dustin in my freshman year of college, so we go wayyyy back! In fact, that’s where he met Elle. I’ve always known Dustin to be super picky, but Elle made him fall head over heels for her. When she stepped into his life, he realized she was the ONE. She’s a perfect match for him, right down to their shared love of punk music like Blink 182.
Elle and Dustin got married at Ashton Hill Farm in Cedar Rapids on a perfect summer day. Ashton Hill is actually one of my FAVORITE venues to shoot at, because it’s got that barn aesthetic, but it’s not a rustic barn. It’s so clean and bright and modern, which I love! Elle looked timeless and classic in a perfectly minimalist gown with the most beautiful back and shoulder detailing. She was so so stunning, and her mismatched bridesmaids were a freaking dream to shoot as well! All the pastel colors came together so wonderfully. And of course, Elle and Dustin’s adorable little corgi, Winston, was also there for their wedding day! It was so stinkin’ cute when he walked down the aisle during the ceremony!
I typically recommend doing a first look before the ceremony, but Elle and Dustin didn’t do one because Dustin was determined to see Elle for the first time on their big day when she was walking down the aisle. It was SUCH a sweet moment, and he DEFINITELY dropped some tears when Elle’s dad walked her down the aisle for their “I do’s.” By the time she made it to the arch where he was waiting for her, Dustin had tears streaming down his face. He took Elle’s hand in his and they pledged their love to each other in front of their closest family and friends. Their whole wedding day was filled with happy tears, lots of love, and lots of joy. These are the weddings I love the most when everyone is so emotionally invested in the couple’s love story.
It’s been super amazing to see the progression of Elle and Dustin’s relationship. Being able to capture their wedding day as a friend who’s known them since they first got together, and knowing what led up to this day was such a beautiful experience. And over the years I’ve become friends with Elle too, so this wedding was so near and dear to my heart! Kyle and I felt so loved and so accepted by all their family and friends on their wedding day, and at the end of the night, we put our cameras down and hopped right out there on the dance floor with beers in hand and celebrated with the whole crew.
