Jenny & Colby's Wedding Day in Des Moines, IA

Jenny and Colby met at a wedding, so it’s only fitting that they got married at one too, right? ;)

OK all dad jokes aside, these two were one of the sweetest couples that I got to photograph, and I was honored that they chose me because Colby is a wedding photographer himself! We started off the day at Oliver and James salon in downtown Des Moines, and it’s a super cute new salon and I highly recommend all my brides to get ready there! SUCH a cute location and Horizon Line coffee is right next door so you’ll get your coffee fix in! After hair and makeup were finished, everyone headed on over to the church in East Village to get dressed. I was IN LOVE with Jenny’s dress, and she told me she thrifted it!!! LIKE…WHAT. Girl has got some thrifting SKILLS.

Colby and Jenny chose to do their first look at the Botanical Gardens in Des Moines, IA, and it was such a beautiful place to first see each other. We took their portraits in the Botanical Center as well, and again, TOTALLY recommend doing this if you want some green in your photos but your day calls for rain or snow.

When Jenny walked down the aisle, it was like a dream! This big old church had a gorgeous balcony overlooking everything below, and it made for the perfect shot as her dad walked her down arm in arm. Since it was cold any rainy out, they weren’t sure if a grand exit was going to happen, but at the last minute everything cleared and they ran out of the church through a cloud of bubbles and those two plus the bridal party loaded up to go take some epic “sunset” photos. Yep, we missed the sunset. But HOLY COW we got the most amazing view of downtown Des Moines. Just wait until you see it!

Jenny and Colby danced the night away at the Science Center with all of their family and friends, and Kyle and I felt so welcomed by everyone there and totally hopped on the dance floor for a bit before heading home.

I loved this day so much. The weather wasn’t perfect, it was cold and rainy, but these two made the most of it and weren’t afraid to head outside for some fun photos and THOSE are my type of people! I love couples who aren’t afraid of getting a little wild on their wedding day. Go take a peek through this gorgeous November wedding day!
